The Playtones originates from Boppin Steve & The Playtones, whose energetic piano-based rock ‘n’ roll still remains as a foundation throughout their music and sound. The lineup is classic with piano, guitar, double bass and drums. On the latest release, “Rock The Road”, one can clearly hear the band’s love of 1950’s music and sound – compared to earlier material the band emphasizes it’s influences in rockabilly, rock ‘n’ roll and rhythm and blues.
After have made several TV-appearances, touring continuously, sold most albums in Sweden the band has made a decision; frontman and singer Boppin Steve and the rest of the band wanted to make a statement with next album – further approach and embrace the genuine retro and vintage-style rock ‘n’ roll that they all so much love. “Everything is recorded live and we had a fantastic and creative time in the studio with engineer Amir Aly” says Boppin Steve. “We wanted a more genuine and old school sound than on previous albums. More old style rock ‘n’ roll with as little overdubs as possible. Everyone was up to it, so we just did it and had a whole lot of fun doing it!” he continues.
The Playtones is Stefan ‘Boppin Steve’ Jonasson on piano and vocals. He is a name on the retro rock and rockabilly-scene in Europe since the mid 1990:s and is the founder of the band. He handpicked the other members; on upright is Mattias ‘Doghouse Matt’ Schertell, Anders ‘Rubber Duck’ Svensson on guitar and on drums Per ‘Svannte’ Sennerhall. The band is located in the southeast of Sweden, in Blekinge – the Mississippi of Sweden if you will.
