His musical influences in the american 50‘s and 40‘s music was discovered via Chuck Berry’s Maybelline. It was the first single he heard and he was blown away by mr. Berry’s music. Svannte

Educated in jazz-music Svannte has been active on the jazz- and blues scenes in Sweden.
Svannte was also a member of Boppin Steve & The Playtones and bandmate in blues bands with Doghouse. Svannte’s influences is musicians such as Earl Palmer and Stanton Moore – they taught him “second line” and “between the cracks”.
Occasionally he listens to some 70’s rock but it is more likely you will see him rock out to some old school New Orleans based rhythm and blues.

Rubber Duck

The guitar player in The Playtones, Rubber Duck, joined in as soon as the spot was available. Educated in rock, his raw old school guitar-playing adds a bite and edge to the sound. Starting with trumpet in his early days, he took up guitar as a teenager. When he first heard Carl Perkins he knew what to do from that point – play that guitar!
He is a passionate guitar-collector and knows just about everything there is to know about obscure boutique pedals.

About The Playtones

The Playtones originates from Boppin Steve & The Playtones, whose energetic piano-based rock ‘n’ roll still remains as a foundation throughout their music and sound. The lineup is classic with piano, guitar, double bass and drums. On the latest release, “Rock The Road”, one can clearly hear the band’s love of 1950’s music and sound – compared to earlier material the band emphasizes it’s influences in rockabilly, rock ‘n’ roll and rhythm and blues.

After have made several TV-appearances, touring continuously, sold most albums in Sweden the band has made a decision; frontman and singer Boppin Steve and the rest of the band wanted to make a statement with next album – further approach and embrace the genuine retro and vintage-style rock ‘n’ roll that they all so much love. “Everything is recorded live and we had a fantastic and creative time in the studio with engineer Amir Aly” says Boppin Steve. “We wanted a more genuine and old school sound than on previous albums. More old style rock ‘n’ roll with as little overdubs as possible. Everyone was up to it, so we just did it and had a whole lot of fun doing it!” he continues.

The Playtones is Stefan ‘Boppin Steve’ Jonasson on piano and vocals. He is a name on the retro rock and rockabilly-scene in Europe since the mid 1990:s and is the founder of the band. He handpicked the other members; on upright is Mattias ‘Doghouse Matt’ Schertell, Anders ‘Rubber Duck’ Svensson on guitar and on drums Per ‘Svannte’ Sennerhall. The band is located in the southeast of Sweden, in Blekinge – the Mississippi of Sweden if you will.
